The domestic carmaker, Maruti has launched the second generation of the MPV, Ertiga. The Eritiga was first launched in 2012 and it was a crowd puller, the manufacturer sold more than 4.18 lakh units of the vehicle since its first launch. With revised design, upgraded features and new petrol engine the next-gen Ertiga has made a grand entry.
The new Ertiga has been developed on a fifth-gen Heartect platform and it is larger in dimensions than its predecessor. The car gets new projector headlamps, LED tail lamps, redesigned front grille and chrome treatment at various places. It has blacked-out B and C-pillars, electric ORVMs with turns signals and sits on 15-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels.
On the inside, there is a dual-tone dashboard with wooden finish. The dashboard is ergonomically laid out and the level of craftsmanship has been improved. A 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system is housed in the centre console which gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The car gets features like keyless entry with engine start/stop button, automatic climate control, 12V charging point in 3rd-row, height adjustable driver seat, navigation and voice commands. The increase in dimension has allowed more legroom in the third row, moreover, the third row comes with a recline function.
Safety-wise the car gets ABS, EBD, brake assist, dual airbags, high-speed alert system and ISOFIX child safety seat anchors as standard. The new Ertiga is available in five exterior paint options – Pearl Metallic Auburn Red, Metallic Magma Grey, Pearl Metallic Oxford Blue, Pearl Arctic White and Metallic Silky Silver.
The Ertiga is available in two engine options – a 1.5-litre petrol engine which makes 105 PS of power and 138 Nm of torque or a 1.3-litre turbo diesel engine which produces 90 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque. This K15 petrol motor made its debut in the Maruti Ciaz. These engines come with SHVS technology. Both the engines will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and there will be an option for a 4-speed automatic gearbox in the V and Z variants of the petrol engine.
The Ertiga is available in ten variants - four petrol-manual, two petrol-automatic and four diesel-manual. Four variants are L, V, Z and Z+. Moreover, ESP and Hill Hold functions are available on the automatic variants. The Ertiga is available at all Maruti Suzuki Arena from Rs. 7.44 lakhs (ex-showroom) and it will take on the likes of Mahindra Marazzo and Honda BR-V.
