BMW has revealed the performance oriented M division models of the X3 and X4

BMW has launched the next generation X3 M and X4 M. Both cars are slated to go into production by April, 2019.

The 2020 X3 M and X4 M powered by a new twin-turbo 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine mated to an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission and a rear-biased all-wheel drive system. This setup produces 479 PS of peak power and 598 Nm of torque. This enables the X3 and X4 M to accelerate from 0-100 km/hr in 4.2 seconds while the top speed is limited to 280 km/hr.

If the X3 M and X4 M do not satiate your hunger for performance, you could order the X3 and X4 M Competition. The Competition variants have an upgraded engine that develop 510 PS of peak power but the torque figures remain unchanged at 598 Nm. This helps the models to be about a second quicker as they cover the 0-100 km/hr run in 4.1 seconds while the top speed is increased to 284 km/hr with the optional M Driver’s Package.

Other performance upgrades include suspension upgrades like custom swivel bearings, torque arms and wishbones up front and custom bushings, beefier anti-roll bars and an assortment of model-specific components at the rear suspension. The chassis has also been strengthened, as a part of this, the front end has M-specific bracing including a strut tower brace and a new A-strut by the firewall. Moreover, both cars get a large rear brace and model-specific rear axle control arms to further increase torsional stiffness.

Furthermore, the crossovers get an Active M Differential, an Adaptive M Suspension and an M Servotronic steering system with a variable ratio. BMW have also installed a high-performance braking system which features drilled and ventilated discs that measure 395 mm up front and 370 mm at the back.

The 2020 X3 M and X4 M have unique design elements as well to differentiate them from the regular models. They get a black grille and a more aggressive front fascia with larger air intakes. Others changes include aerodynamic mirror caps, a unique rear diffuser and a four-tailpipe exhaust system, M-specific spoilers, additional body color components and 20-inch wheels with a polished orbit grey finish. The Competition variants look quite similar to are largely identical, but get few significant changes like the high-gloss black accents, 21-inch wheels and an M Sport exhaust system with black chrome tailpipes. Later this year, Customers will also be able to order an optional M Carbon exterior package which adds a number of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic components including a rear diffuser and mirror caps.

The interior of both the cars get Vernasca leather sport seats, aluminum carbon structure trim and a leather-wrapped sport steering wheel. Other additions are an M-specific instrument cluster, a unique shifter and center console-mounted knee pads. The X3 M and X4 M Competition get a special badging and standard M Sport seats in extended Merino leather as exclusive additions. Both cars are equipped with adaptive LED headlights, GPS navigation and a Harman Kardon audio system. The cars get an assortment of driver assistance systems including Active Guard, Active Protection, Active Driving Assistant and Frontal Collision Warning with City collision mitigation. Buyers can also order a number of different options including carbon fiber trim, a heads-up display and a wireless smartphone charger. There will also be a Driving Assistance Plus Package and an Executive Package which adds a heated steering wheel as well as heated front and rear seats.
