Ford has updated the F-Series Super Duty with a slew of upgrades with the biggest being the addition of a new 7.3-litre V8 diesel engine. The truck was available only with an option of a 6.2-litre V8 engine before the update.
While Ford didn’t reveal performance specs for the truck, they did say that it is “the most powerful petrol V8 in its class”. They also added that it uses a new cam-in-block, overhead valve architecture with cast iron block and forged crankshaft. The company added that the V8 will offer sufficient towing and payload capabilities.
Ford has also launched a new 10-speed automatic transmission that replaces the 6-speed gearbox. The transmission unit weighs 1.6 kgs more and features selectable driving modes such as Normal, Tow/Haul, Eco, Slippery and Deep Sand and Snow. It can be coupled to either of the engines on offer.
For the exterior, the truck features revised front end design that optimizes cooling. There are new LED headlights, reworked front and rear bumpers, tailgate and taillights among other updates. The updated Super Duty also gets a new Pro Trailer Backup Assist, which helps drivers tackle tight spaces with ease. It also gets better connectivity features like a new 4G LTE modem with Wi-Fi access for up to 10 devices. The Super Duty also gets optional extras to enhance comfort for the occupants like a wireless charging pad among others.
There’s plenty of safety features on offer for the updated Super Duty as well. The Lane-Keeping Alert, Blind Spot Information with trailer coverage monitors, Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Detection ensure that occupants are always safe in the Super Duty.
Ford might showcase the 2020 F-Series Super Duty at the Chicago Auto Show while it will be available for sale by mid-2019 in North America.
