Automotive brands across the world are focussing on improving the safety of their vehicles. Today’s consumers are actively looking for cars coming with essential safety features. With a rise in the number of road accidents, governments are actively enforcing the necessary safety guidelines for automotive manufacturers. Global New Car Assessment Programme or abbreviated as Global NCAP recently conducted crash tests of over 38 Indian vehicles under its #SaferCarsForIndia programme. With the test results out, here is a list of 'Top 10 Safest Cars in India' according to Global NCAP.
These are the Top Safest Cars in India ranked on a scale of 1 to 10.
`1. Mahindra XUV300
Mahindra XUV300 received a Safe Choice Award from Global NCAP. It became the first Indian car to recieve a 5 star rating for adult occupant protection and 4 stars for child occupant protection. The compact SUV comes equipped with safety features like dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, all four disc brakes, ISOFIX child seat mounts and corner braking control. Other key safety highlights are driver and co-passenger seat belt reminder, impact sensing door unlocks along with a high mounted stop lamp and panic braking signal.
2. Tata Altroz
New Tata Altroz was launched in India on January 20, 2020, and boasts of 5 star rating at the Global NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) crash tests in the adult occupant protection category. Tata Altroz got three stars in the child occupant protection category. Coming to the safety features of Tata Altroz, there are dual air-bags for both front passenger and driver with the addition of ISOFIX child-seat mounts for child safety. ABS with EBD and CSC, reverse parking sensors, high-speed alert system and impact sensing auto door unlock adds to the safety outlook of the Altroz. Tata Altroz's basic variant comes at Rs 5.29 Lakh (ex-showroom).
3. Tata Nexon
Global NCAP awarded a 5-star rating to Tata Nexon produced after December 7, 2018, with all its variants boasting of dual airbags, ISOFIX child-seat mounts and ABS. Electronic Stability Program comes with Electronic Traction Control, Emergency Brake Assist, Hill Hold Control among others. All New 2020 Tata Nexon comes with height adjustable seatbelts with pre-tensioner, load-limiter & crash-locking tongue for driver safety during any impact. The basic petrol variant of New Tata Nexon is priced at Rs 6,95,000 (ex-Showroom) India.
4. Mahindra Marazzo
Mahindra Marazzo got a 4-star rating from NCAP thus becoming first India made MPV to get one. Reason for the stellar rating is the presence of dual front airbags on all the variants. Marazzo’s enitre line-up comes equipped with disc brakes on all the wheels. Anti-lock braking system (ABS) with EBD, ISOFIX child seat mounts, cornering lamp, side-impact beam make the MPV from Mahindra one of the safest cars in its segment. Currently, the BS6 model production is delayed as the manufacturing unit is closed due to the Coronavirus Epidemic. BS4 basic variant of Mahindra Marazzo was priced at Rs 9.9 Lakhs (ex-showroom) so we can expect a price increase in the newer BS6 compliant version.
5. Volkswagen Polo
Volkswagen Polo with dual airbags was rated 4-star for adult occupant protection in 2014. VW Polo is one fo the safest models in the premium hatchback category. It has a galvanised steel body, that’s enclosed by a laser-welded roof. ABS is offered as standard across all variants. Price of Volkswagen Polo Facelift begins at Rs 5.82 lakhs (ex-showroom) India for the basic variant.
6. Tata Tiago and Tigor
Global NCAP awarded 4 stars to Tata Tigor compact sedan and Tiago hatchback. Tata has equipped the new Tiago with dual airbags, ABS with EBD and Corner Stability Control. Tiago also comes with rear parking sensors and camera, speed-sensitive auto door locking among many others. Tata Tiago Facelift price starts from Rs 4.6 Lakhs (ex-showroom) India. While Tata Tigor Facelift comes equipped with a host of safety features like dual airbags, ABS with EBD, Corner Stability Control, Rear Parking Sensors and camera. Tata Tigor Facelift price starts at Rs 5.75 Lakhs (ex-showroom) India.
7. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is the safest compact SUV in the Indian automakers product lineup as it bagged 4 stars in the adult occupancy. Safety features coming in the SUV include dual airbags, Anti-Lock-Braking System with EBD and Suzuki’s Total Effective Control Technology. Maruti Vitara Brezza price starts at Rs 7.34 lakhs (ex-showroom).
8. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga
The current-generation Maruti Suzuki Ertiga secured a 3-star rating for adult occupancy in the Global NCAP. Safety features coming in the Ertiga comprise of dual airbags with ISOFIX child mounts, ABS with EBD, Hill Hold Technology and Electronic Stability Program. Maruti Ertiga is based on the Heartect platform employing high-tensile steel. The current-gene Maruti Suzuki Ertiga price begins from Rs 7.59 lakhs (ex-showroom) Delhi.
9. Ford Aspire
The New BS6 compliant Ford Aspire comes with front, side and curtain airbags to keep the driver and occupants safe. It offers safety equippment like a reverse camera, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) among many others. 2020 BS6 Ford Aspire costs Rs 5.99 lakhs (ex-showroom) Delhi for the base variant.
10. Renault Duster
Renault launched a BS6 compliant Duster 2020 which comes packed with a host of safety features. Dual airbags for both the driver and passenger, a change from 2017 Duster having only one driver side airbag. Driver and passenger seat belt reminder, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) with Brake Assist (BA) and Reverse parking sensors adds to the safety appeal of Renault Duster. The French automaker has also provided rapid deceleration warning, speed-sensitive door locking and impact sensing door unlocks. BS6 compliant Renault Duster SUV Petrol was launched at an introductory price of Rs 8.49 lakhs (ex-showroom).
