Hyundai, the South-Korean automaker, has started teasing the world with the 2021 Santa Fe SUV which is expected to debut by September 2020 in the European markets. Taking a radical departure from the ongoing model in terms of styling and appearance, the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe will be available with electric powertrains for the first time. The SUV will be rugged in nature while being underpinned by an all-new architecture. As far as India is concerned, Hyundai is in no mood to re-introduce the new iteration of its flagship in our country.

Going by the teaser image, the heavily updated version of the SUV flaunts several new design elements including slit-like LED headlamps with vertical daytime running lamps (DRLs) and a huge front grille. The 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe has become the first SUV from the company to be based on the new third-generation Hyundai-Kia jointly developed vehicle architecture. This platform debuted last year with the all-new Sonata sedan. The upcoming model will only share a handful of body panels with the current SUV. Inside the cabin, it will boast of a vertically positioned portrait style touchscreen infotainment system, reminiscent of the unit seen with the China-spec Hyundai Creta (ix25).
Mechanically, the 2021 new Hyundai Santa Fe will be offered with fully-hybrid and plug-in-hybrid powertrain setup. Though, more details regarding the engine and transmission options are likely to be revealed in the coming weeks. It is certain that the Europe-spec and America-spec model of the SUV will come with a 4x4 drive system. Hyundai Santa Fe was on sale in the Indian market till 2017 and the company has no plans to bring it back in the country, instead it is focusing more on the small and mid-sized SUVs in India. Hyundai already has three SUV models on sale in our country: Venue, Creta and Tucson. The 2020 Tucson facelift will hit the Indian shores in the next few weeks.
