New-Gen Mahindra XUV500 is expected to launch by early next year in the Indian market

Mahindra & Mahindra is all set to introduce the second-generation XUV500 in the Indian market by early next year. Its test mule has been spotted doing the test runs on a multiple occasions in the past. Spy shots revealing the interior, new features, and engine of the 2021 XUV500 have been leaked online.

From these spy shots, we can clearly see that the cabin of the 2021 XUV500 is camouflaged. However, the images certainly reveal the new horizontally stacked touchscreen infotainment unit along with the instrument cluster. This setup is similar to the one present on Mercedes Benz. Furthermore, we can also see the multi-function flat-bottom steering wheel with mounted controls on either side. There is also an electric parking brake and a drive mode selector knob. Talking about the centre console, we can see the climate control system that gets a traditional design. The two dials have been placed on either side with a host of buttons in the middle. The button cluster console design found in the current model will not be present in the upcoming XUV500. The centre console also gets a rotary dial that is speculated to be a driving mode selector. However, the symbol on it represents a music icon and a phone icon. The upcoming XUV500 is likely to be offered with Level 1 Autonomous Technology having Advanced Driver Assistant System (ADAS).

Cosmetically, the 2021 XUV500 will retain the Cheetah-inspired silhouette that will give it an aggressive stance. However, the bonnet design will be slightly revised. Thus it is expected to feature a more bold design. Under the bonnet, the upcoming SUV likely to retain the 2.2-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine. This engine generates 152 bhp power and 360 Nm torque while being mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox along with a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission as an option. The upcoming XUV500 might also be offered with a new turbo-petrol engine. It could be the 2.0-litre T-GDi Mstallion unit that powers the recently launched Mahindra Thar

As for the price, we can expect 2021 XUV500 to fall in the bracket of Rs 13 lakhs - Rs 20 lakhs (ex-showroom). Once launched, the upcoming SUV will rival the likes of MG Hector, the upcoming Tata Gravitas, and the 7-seat version of Hyundai Creta in its segment.
