New-gen Maruti Celerio will feature a touchscreen infotainment unit; likely to be launched by mid 2021

Maruti Suzuki was planning to launch the new-gen Celerio during Diwali this year. But due to some delay from the supplier’s end, the hatchback will now be launched by mid of 2021. Recently, the 2021 Maruti Celerio was spotted wrapped in heavy camouflage. The spied images have been leaked online which further gave us a fair idea of what the model will look like. The upcoming hatchback’s interior was also caught in the eye of the camera for the first time.

The spy images reveal that the 2021 Celerio will get an all-black interior along with an updated upholstery. Maruti will equip the new hatch with a plethora of features. The main highlight of the cabin is a 7-inch Smartplay Studio infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. We can clearly see in the images that the 3-spoke steering wheel does not have audio controls. The instrument cluster as well looks pretty basic with the speedometer in the centre and a small MID with an amber backlight. Furthermore, the new-gen Celerio gets a new centre console with two cup holders and centrally mounted front power window switches. There is also a 12V power socket present on the console.

In terms of design, the new-gen Maruti Celerio will get an upgrade. The first major update is that the hatch will be based on Suzuki’s new Heartech architecture which also underpins the new WagonR and S-Presso. The recent spy images reveal that the upcoming 2021 Maruti Celerio will be slightly larger in size along with a longer wheelbase and a higher ground clearance in comparison to the current model. Upfront, the spied unit gets halogen headlights placed towards the side. The indicator lights are placed on the fenders. On the side, it gets liftback door handles on all four doors and internally adjustable ORVMs. The rear end, however, looks similar to the current model. But we can expect subtle changes.

Under the bonnet, the 2021 Maruti Celerio will be offered with a new 1.2-litre four-cylinder K12 petrol unit along with the existing 1.0-litre three-cylinder, K10B petrol engine. The 1.0-litre K10B petrol unit powering the current Celerio generates 67 bhp power and 90 Nm peak torque. Both the engines will get a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard along with a 5-speed AMT as an option. We can also expect the new Celerio to get a factory-fitted CNG kit as an option.
