2021 Yamaha MT 09 has now been revealed. There is everything to admire about the new naked motorcycle which comes with a completely new design, powerful engine plus being lightweight in comparison to its predecessor. Its price has not been shared by the manufacturer with the model expected to arrive in the European market by the first quarter of 2021. About the 2021 Yamaha MT 09 launch in India, we expect it to take place by late 2021 or early 2022. Once launched in the country, the new Yamaha MT 09 will rival against the likes of Triumph Street Triple R, upcoming KTM 890 Duke and Kawasaki Z900 in its segment.
In terms of design, the motorcycle will get a completely overhauled bodywork. It will provide a single projector headlamp featuring DRL's on either side, aggressively styled fuel tank and a conventional number plate holder. These design updates make the new MT-09 markedly different from the older model currently selling worldwide. Further, the 2021 Yamaha MT-09 comes with a completely new aluminium swingarm which is 250 gms lighter than the one present in the current model. The bike's stability increases while riding in a straight line thanks to the new Deltabox frame. The light engine and new body frame make this new model lighter by almost 3 kgs as it now weighs 189 kgs.
Talking about its ergonomics, the bike has a typical streetfighter stance with a titled forward riding position. One interesting point to note especially for the biking enthusiasts is that the riding position can be modified by just unclamping the handlebars and rotating it forward by 10 mm. The riders can also further raise the footpeg mounts. Yamaha MT-09 comes with an update in the crossplane inline-triple engine as the powertrain's displacement has now been bumped from 84cc to 890cc. Furthermore, the Japanese manufacturer has added new elements like forged pistons, crankshaft, camshaft fracture-split connecting rods within the engine. With these upgrades, the bike delivers 117 bhp of power output and 93 Nm of peak torque. It is paired to a 6-speed gearbox with an up/down quickshifter. Assist and slip clutch is offered as a standard fitment.
Moving on to the electronics on-board, MT 09 comes equipped with a completely new 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) borrowed from the Yamaha YZF-R1. Plus the two-wheeler caters to 3 different riding modes - Mode 1, Mode 2 and Mode M. Latter can be customized as per the rider’s requirements. One can also view these modes on the new 3.5-inch TFT display.
