Chinese EV maker BYD has unveiled the Shark hybrid pickup truck for the global market. The all-new BYD Shark is the first truck in the brand’s lineup, and it is based on the DMO Off-Road ladder-frame platform. The automaker revealed the Shark hybrid at an event held in Mexico City. This is the first time the EV maker has launched a brand-new product outside its home country, China. The new pickup truck is all set to rival the likes of the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger, which are also available in the Indian market.
The company’s Chief of Americas, Stella Li, stated that the company chose Mexico City because there is a huge demand for pickup trucks in the country. The new product will further strengthen the brand’s position in the North American market.
Inside the cabin, the BYD Shark Hybrid pickup truck comes equipped with a 12.8-inch rotating infotainment display along with Android Auto connectivity and Apple CarPlay. The truck also features a 12-inch head-up display and a 10.25-inch instrument display. There are physical buttons integrated on the centre console for several functions of the truck. The automaker utilized multiple colors to highlight the cabin's design elements. The toggle switches and rectangular air vents in the centre console are painted orange, while the dashboard, door panels, and seats all have contrast stitching.
In terms of safety features, the BYD Shark is packed with six airbags, vehicle dynamic control, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind spot monitoring, hill descent control, hill start control, a regenerative braking system, and more. BYD will offer the pickup truck with three terrain modes: Sand, Snow, and Mud.
