While such vehicles were around much before the augment of SUV's in India, the contemporary models have intensified the competition. Apart from the space inside the cabin, the styling, comfort and convenience have further contributed to the popularity of large seven-seat family vehicles.

Jeep 7-Seater SUV

Jeep is working on an all-new 7-seater SUV, that is likely to be launched in 2021 in India. This upcoming seven-seater SUV will be based on Jeep Compass. It is expected to be priced around Rs 28 lakhs (ex-showroom). The India-bound model will be based on the updated Small Wide Platform, which also underpins the Renegade, Toro and the Compass. Compared to the regular model, it will be wider and longer; however, the wheelbase will remain the same. The SUV gets a spacious interior due to a flatter roof. The rear doors will be larger in size for easier access to the third row of seats. In terms of design, it will feature revised front and rear design with new grille, headlamps, tail-lamps and bumpers. It is likely to be powered by a 2.0 litre twin-turbo diesel engine, that will produce over 200 bhp power. A six-speed manual gearbox delivering the power to its front wheels will come as standard, while a 9-speed automatic gearbox could well be in the offering as an option.

Hyundai is planning to get the 7-seater version of New-Generation Creta in Q1 2021. It is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 12 lakhs - Rs 18 lakhs (ex-showroom). This 7-seater SUV will be around 30mm longer than the 5-seater model and will ride on 20mm longer wheelbase. It will receive design changes in the form of a flat roof, revised rear profile, new roof rails, slimmer C-pillar and new chrome-studded front grille. It will be offered in 6 and 7-seat options. It will feature with 3 engine options – a 1.5-litre petrol unit producing 113 bhp power, 1.5-litre diesel mill delivering 113 bhp power, and 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine churning out 138 bhp power. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual transmission as standard, a CVT with 1.5 litre petrol, a 6-speed torque convertor with diesel and a 7-speed DCT with 1.4 litre turbo petrol.

MG Gloster

MG Motor India debuted Gloster, a seven-seater SUV at Auto Expo 2020. The rebadged version of the China-Spec Maxus D90 is all set to go on sale during this festive season. MG Gloster is expected to be priced around Rs 28 lakhs (ex-showroom). The SUV features wraparound headlamps, chrome treatment has been given to the door handles and window line, a roof spoiler, and there is a silver trim on the tailgate. The presence of LED taillamps and a rear diffuser in gloss black finish, give it a masculine look.It is expected to get an interior similar to Maxus D90. It boasts of an all-black theme with silver accents and a flat-bottom steering wheel. Gloster will come powered by a  2.0 litre turbocharged diesel engine churning out 218 bhp power and 480 Nm torque while mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. It will also be sold with a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol unit producing 224 bhp of power output with 360 Nm of peak torque.

New Mahindra XUV500

Mahindra & Mahindra is all set to give a generation change to the XUV500 SUV. It is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 13 lakhs - Rs 19 lakhs (ex-showroom). Cosmetically, the BS6 XUV500 is expected to get a grille that looks identical to the one offered on the XUV300 subcompact SUV. It will also feature the all-new LED projector headlamp and signature DRLs vertically placed, similar to the one present on Mahindra XUV300. The front design of Mahindra XUV500 resembles that of XUV300. It will receive flush-fitting door handles. The rear-end is expected to get LED taillamps, a roof-integrated spoiler, and a dual-tone bumper. The interior is likely to boast of a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity. It also gets a reclining second-row of seats, telematics functions and a multi-functional steering wheel. Mechanically, it will be powered by the same 2.2 litre 4-cylinder diesel engine producing 153 bhp power and 360 Nm torque. It can be availed with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission with the power transmitted to its front wheels.

Mahindra & Mahindra is all set to launch the Next-Gen Scorpio in Q1 2021. 2021 Mahindra Scorpio is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 12 lakhs - Rs 18 lakhs (ex-showroom). In terms of design, it will be underpinned by a freshly updated ladder on frame chassis for the first time. It is likely to get new body panels and the design will sport the upright silhouette that has defined the SUV since it was first launched in 2002. The New-Generation Mahindra Scorpio is also expected to get vertically placed LED DRLs on the face of the SUV like the XUV300. The rear end should get a side-hinged door with vertical tail-lights. While the interior will boast of a fresh dashboard design dominated by a large touchscreen infotainment system. The SUV is expected to share a lot of equipment with that of Mahindra Marazzo. It will discontinue the side-facing rear third-row of seats in order to meet the latest safety norms. It will draw power from the same 2.2 litre 4-cylinder diesel engine which generates a power output of 140 bhp @ 3750rpm and has the highest torque performance of 320Nm between 1500-2800rpm. The base S5 variant would be offered with a 5-speed manual transmission while the remaining three variants should be available with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard.
