Jeep showcased its Grand Cherokee Trackhawk at the New York motor show. Under the hood sits the same engine that does duty in the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. It’s a supercharged 6.2-litre V8, and will make the Trackhawk the world’s most powerful series production SUV yet.
The engine puts out a whopping 717hp and 874Nm of torque. The SUV can supposedly out-accelerate cars like Range Rover SVR, Bentley Bentayga, and Porsche Cayenne Turbo S. Getting from 0-100kph takes only 3.5sec (identical to a Jaguar’s F-Type SVR) and can hit a top speed of 290kph. This powerful engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends drive to all four wheels. Braking is handled by Brembo 400mm front and 350mm rear discs that work with six and four-piston calipers respectively. The Trackhawk wears thick bumpers and a roof spoiler, and it sports quad-exit exhausts. On the inside, there are deeply bolstered leather seats that are accompanied by a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster and an 8.4-inch touchscreen, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto included.
The Trackhawk will sit above the 468hp Grand Cherokee SRT (currently the most potent car in Jeep’s line-up) in the carmaker’s range.
