Kia EV6 is the first BEV built on a new dedicated EV platform

The all-electric Kia EV6 has made its global debut. The crossover is based on the company’s new platform for battery electric vehicles (BEVs). Besides this, it is the first dedicated BEV to be launched under the new Kia design philosophy ‘Opposites United’. It will be manufactured in South Korea. We can expect it to go on sale in select global markets in the second half of 2021.

The EV6 crossover SUV takes design inspiration from the contrasts found in nature and humanity. It gets the crossover-inspired silhouette. Upfront, Kia’s signature ‘tiger face’ has been re-interpreted for the digital era. It gets sleek DRLs with a sequential dynamic light pattern. The low air intake gives a wide appearance to the car from the front. On the sides, we can see a character line running along the bottom of the doors, curving upwards towards the rear wheel arches. The rear end boasts of a sloping C-pillar with an integrated black glossy insert. Other design bits include a wing-type roof spoiler and a raised lower spoiler.

Moving inside the cabin of the EV6 GT, it comes equipped with a plethora of features. The main feature highlight is the high-tech infotainment system with a 12-inch dual screen. The infotainment system is positioned above the centre console. The EV6 also features an augmented-reality head-up display system that displays alerts like the vehicle speed and turn-by-turn navigation instructions from the car’s Advanced Driver Assistance System. The 14-speaker Meridian surround audio system is a first for Kia BEV which further offers Active Sound Design (ASD). This is a newly designed feature by Kia that provides drivers with audible feedback regarding the speed of the car. Besides these, the SUV comes with ‘Kia Connect’ which features a range of Kia real-time services and over-the-air (OTA) updates. The safety kit comprises Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2), driver assistance systems (ADAS), Lane Following Assist (LFA), Safe Exit Assist (SEA), and Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA).

Performance-wise, the EV6 GT comes with a choice of multiple fully-electric, zero-emissions powertrain configurations, such as long-range (77.4 kWh) and standard-range (58.0 kWh) high-voltage battery packs. The EV6 GT comes with a long-range battery pack, while the EV6 GT Line is offered with both long-range and standard-range battery packs. Also, the crossover SUV comes with 2WD or AWD options. Furthermore, the EV6 gets a 77.4 kWh battery pack paired with a 168 kW electric motor that powers the rear wheels. It can cover over 510 kms on a single charge on the WLTP combined cycle. On the other hand, the 58 kWh battery pack is paired with a 125 kW electric motor powering the rear wheels. The AWD models in this case get two electric motors that power the front and rear axles.
