The all-new BMW S 1000 R has been launched in the Indian market at an introductory price of Rs 17.90 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom). Being presented in three variants namely Standard, Pro and Pro M Sport, the bookings are now open for the superbike at the BMW Motorrad dealerships. It will be sold as a completely built-up unit (CBU). The 2021 BMW S 1000 R will come with a standard warranty for ‘three years, unlimited kilometers’. In addition, Road-Side Assistance which is a 24x7 365 days package, will be offered on the purchase of the S 1000 R.
Being based on the BMW S 1000 RR, the superbike gets a ‘tail up - nose down’ look with new LED headlamp unit upfront. It also flaunts fuel tank side panels, the tank center cover and the side panels in the shape of a stylised ‘R’ while the engine spoiler has been restyled too. There is a reversible handlebar clamp and seat height adjustment option as well. Besides the basic Racing Red non-metallic color, BMW S 1000 R is offered in a dual tone Hockenheim Silver metallic with Matt Copper metallic paint scheme. Furthermore, is the first model in BMW Motorrad’s portfolio to inherit the iconic colours of the all-new BMW M 1000 RR. The exclusive M Motorsport paint finish is reserved for the M package with the base colour Light White non-metallic in combination with Light Blue, Dark Blue and Red.
As for features, BMW S 1000 R boasts of a 6.5-inch TFT multi-function instrument panel, BMW Motorrad multi-controller, BMW Motorrad Connectivity App, Traction Control, Wheelie-Control, ABS and ABS Pro. In addition, it gets four riding modes namely Rain, Road, Dynamic and Dynamic Pro. The fully configurable ‘Dynamic Pro’ mode is also available with a particularly wide range of setting options as part of the ‘Riding Modes Pro’ option. With ‘Riding Modes Pro’, the all-new BMW S 1000 R also features the ‘Engine Brake’ function in conjunction with the engine drag torque control (MSR) and the ‘Power Wheelie’ function. As part of the Riding Modes Pro option, Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) is also there for emergency braking.
The second-gen BMW S 1000 R is lighter in weight as compared to the preceding model due to the newly engineered suspension setup which features a ‘Flex Frame’. The superbike is powered by a 999cc water cooled 4-cylinder in-line petrol engine which is based on the BMW S1000RR engine. This engine dishes out top power of 165 bhp at 11,000 rpm and peak torque of 114 Nm at 9,250 rpm. Being linked to a 6-speed transmission, the superbike can do a 0-100kmph sprint in merely 3.2 seconds while clocking an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph.
