Kawasaki ZX-4R would be based on the ZX-25R Ninja which was introduced last year in Asia and Australia
Kawasaki is readying an all-new motorcycle named ZX-4R, reveals a Visordown report. Being a fully-faired unit, it is believed to draw power from a 400cc inline 4-cylinder engine. The report further states that Kawasaki ZX-4R would be based on the ZX-25R Ninja which has been a roaring success for the Japanese brand. However, the company has not confirmed anything yet regarding the new motorcycle and its engine specifications. Kawasaki ZX-4R will take on the likes of Aprilia RS660 and the recently unveiled Yamaha YZF-R7.
It has been learnt that the new motorcycle will borrow the engine from ZX-25R which was introduced last year in Asia and Australia. The report reveals that Kawasaki engineers have enlarged the bore of ZX-25R's engine to take the displacement to nearly 400cc for the ZX-4R. In fact, the pistons and crank have been replaced too in order to develop a new engine for the ZX-25R. Though, the power output figures of the new engine are not known yet but we expect it to deliver in excess of 60bhp which is nearly 15bhp more than the current Ninja 400. Earlier, it was speculated that the Japanese bike maker will downsize the Ninja ZX-6R’s engine to 400cc but it chose the ZX-25R for it. The ZX-4R, in all likelihood, will bridge the gap between ZX-25R and ZX-6R.
Some of the notable features Kawasaki might include in the bike could be an inverted USD fork upfront as suspension, linked monoshock at the rear, twin front disc brakes with radial calipers, and a single disc at the rear. Kawasaki ZX-4R could become a successor to the ZXR400 which used to sell during the 90s. It was a raging hit among the bike enthusiasts due to its ability to touch the top speed of 200kmph, courtesy the 400cc inline four-cylinder engine. We expect Kawasaki to make an announcement soon via the digital route as the Tokyo Motor show has been indefinitely postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was originally scheduled to happen in October 2021.
