The all-new Skoda mid-sized sedan will be based on the MQB A0 IN architecture

Skoda has started testing an all-new mid-sized sedan which could be launched by the end of this year in the Indian market. Being codenamed as ANB, it will be based on the MQB A0 IN architecture. It is being learnt that the new Skoda sedan could be sold alongside the Rapid instead of replacing it. The new Skoda mid-sized sedan was spotted in Pune by our friends at Team-BHP. The brand, under the India 2.0 Project, is expected to launch a plethora of heavily localized new vehicles in the country, which will include SUVs and sedans.

As evident from the spy-images, the new sedan will boast of several signature Skoda elements. The front fascia will flaunt the traditional Skoda grille along with a pair of halogen headlamps and halogen fog lamps. The rear end styling cues have been borrowed from the upcoming Octavia sedan as it comes with a notchback design. Though, if dimensions are concerned, it appears smaller than the Skoda Octavia but bigger than the Rapid. In fact, it is being speculated that the new Skoda ANB will be longer and wider than the Rapid. It has been learnt that Skoda could source some of its body panels from the Volkswagen Virtus, which is sold in several international markets across the globe.

As far as the engine is concerned, we believe that Skoda could equip it with the 1.0L TSI petrol unit. The engine could be offered with both manual and automatic transmissions. Skoda will not offer a diesel engine with the new sedan as the brand has already announced that it will focus on cleaner fuel options in the Indian market. Meanwhile, in other news, Skoda is gearing up for the launch of fourth-gen Octavia sedan in India. The new-gen sedan will be launched by the end of April 2021 while the series production started recently at the company's Aurangabad facility. The Czech Republican based automaker will also launch the Kushaq SUV in the next couple of months in the country.
