With a lap time of 2min 9.8sec, the GT R beat the previous record holder, the SLS AMG, by close to 5sec. The test was conducted by FMSCI and AMG driver Christian Hohenadel was behind the wheel.
Under the hood of the GT R is Mercedes-AMG’s 4.0-litre, twin-turbo, V8 engine that makes 585hp and 700Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The GT-R can hit 100kph in a claimed 3.6sec, and can go on to hit a top speed of 317kph. This is the first Mercedes-AMG model to come configured with rear-wheel steering.
The car is the road-going version of the Nürburgring 24-hour race-winning GT3, which is currently the fastest rear-wheel-drive car to go around the track.
Mercedes-AMG will launch its GT R in India on August 21, 2017, alongside its 469hp GT Roadster convertible sibling.
