Audi Q6 e-tron Exterior Styling Revealed: Platform, Powertrain, and Safety Features
Audi has been conducting tests on the Q6 e-tron for over two years. In the recently released official images, the Q6 e-tron, an electric SUV of Q5 size, showcases Audi-branded decals that partly conceal its final design.
Exterior Styling:
The Q6 e-tron boasts a slightly milder version of the front styling found on the larger and more aggressive Q8 e-tron, which is expected to launch in India on August 18. Distinctive double-layered headlamps, a unique feature among Audis, adorn the front, while the grille is large and prominent. The main headlamps have a conventional Audi design. At the rear, the Q6 e-tron exhibits familiar design cues, resembling recent Audis with a full-width LED light bar, a large diffuser, and sharp tail-lamps.
Platform and Powertrain:
The Q6 e-tron utilizes the new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture, developed jointly by Audi and Porsche. This architecture incorporates an 800-volt system, enabling rapid charging with speeds of up to 270kW, allowing the battery to be charged from 10-80 percent in under 30 minutes. Audi will offer at least two powertrain options for the SUV, with the standard Q6 e-tron and sporty SQ6 e-tron versions.
The standard version features a 100kWh battery pack for both SUV and Sportback body styles, and it comes with Audi's Quattro all-wheel-drive technology. The Q6 e-tron is equipped with two electric motors generating around 375hp, with the capability of being boosted to 396hp for brief intervals. Audi claims the standard model can achieve around 600km of range on the WLTP cycle. On the other hand, the more powerful SQ6 e-tron generates 483hp and 510hp with the boost mode, with an expected 0-100kph acceleration in under five seconds.
Safety Features and Advanced Lighting Technology:
Both variants of the Q6 e-tron come equipped with state-of-the-art safety features, such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking.
As for lighting technology, the Q6 e-tron features digital daytime running lights with 61 individual segments and second-generation OLED tail-lights with 60 segments per OLED tile. The combination of these lighting elements allows the Q6 e-tron to showcase up to eight distinct lighting signatures. Audi introduces the "car-to-X functionality" with the "communication light," displaying a red triangular warning symbol, along with hazard lights, to warn other drivers of detected obstructions. This technology aims to enhance road safety and includes Audi's cloud-based road monitoring system.
