Bajaj Auto is planning to launch its Pulsar range of motorcycles in future in India
Bajaj Auto has recently trademarked the nameplate ‘Caliber’. It is being speculated that the moniker will be used for one of its upcoming motorcycles. The motorcycle could either come with an IC engine or will be electrically powered. But there are very few chances that the name will be used for a battery-powered motorcycle. In this case, Bajaj is only left with two options - a 115cc from Platina 110 or a 125cc motor from Pulsar 125. The 115cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine derived from Platina 110 generates 8.5 bhp at 7000rpm and 9.81 Nm peak torque at 5000rpm. While the 124cc single-cylinder, air-cooled, 2-valve SOHC unit powered the entry-level Pulsar 125. The motor delivered 12 bhp at 8500rpm and a peak torque of 11Nm at 7000rpm. It was further linked to a a 5-speed gearbox.
Bajaj Caliber was a popular commuter bike under the partnership of Bajaj and Kawasaki in late 90’s. The entry-level commuter bike grabbed a lot of attention through a TV commercial which featured the buzzing tagline “Hoodibaba”. It was powered by a 111.6cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that churned out a maximum power output of 9.5 bhp and a peak torque of 9.10 Nm. The motor was linked to a 4-speed gearbox. Furthermore, the motorcycle could attain a top speed of 102 kmph. The performance of the commuter bike was very impressive for its segment. However, it did not return a favourable mileage which most of the Indian buyers usually look for in this segment.
Suspension duties were handled by a hydraulically damped telescopic with rubber boots upfront and a swing arm hydraulic shock absorber with coaxial 5 step adjustable spring at the rear. Design-wise, it carried a neat and simple design with a few basic sticker graphics on the fuel tank and fenders.
