Toyota has launched the Glanza in Indian market. The prices for this badge-engineered version of Maruti Baleno hatchback start from Rs. 7.2 lakhs, ex-showroom, Delhi. So there you have it, the badge-engineered version of Baleno. A natural question that will crop up in the mind of an average car customer will always be about the difference between the two cars. The similarities between the two models are so profound, that if one hides the badge of either of the models, it will be difficult to tell one apart from the other. However, there are still a few differences among the two models in the premium hatchback segment and we are going to talk about them today. Therefore, let's take a look as to what distinguishes the Toyota Glanza from the Maruti Baleno in the market. This will help the customers choose the car that is more suited to their needs.
Price
Yes, the major difference first. The one thing that sets apart the Baleno from its badge engineered version is the price at which the two cars can be had. While the entry level models for Baleno start at a much lower price tag of Rs. 5.5 lakhs, the Glanza range starts at Rs. 7.2 lakhs. However, Toyota has managed to price the Glanza G manual and mild-hybrid variant at a price that is nearly Rs. 50,000 lower than the similar variant of Baleno. Also, this Glanza variant is similarly equipped as the Baleno variant. The remaining variants of Glanza do not differ a lot from Baleno but the Glanza undercutting the Baleno mild-hybrid variant is sure to attract some customers to the Toyota dealerships.
Warranty
Next comes the standard warranty on offer on both the cars. Toyota has already made it clear that the company will not focus on the changing the Glanza, rather it would focus on the customer experience. This become evident on the warranty that Toyota is offering on Glanza. While Maruti offers a warranty of only 2 years or 40,000 kilometers on the Baleno. Toyota is offering a 3-year/ 1,00,000 km standard warranty on the Glanza which is the best in the segment.
Engine
The next major difference between Glanza and Baleno come in the form of engines on offer on the two cars. While Baleno comes with the option of a diesel engine, Toyota has taken the petrol only route with the Glanza. Not just this, both the engine variants on Glanza, the 1.2L petrol and the 1.2L petrol with mild-hybrid, are BS-VI complaint. Therefore, making a Glanza purchase today would mean that your car is future proof for a considerable time. Meanwhile, on Baleno, only the mild-hybrid engine is BS-VI complaint and the diesel engine is set to be discontinued post April 2020. So, maybe Baleno offers a lot more options in the line-up Glanza is the cleaner and more future-proof car as of now.
Features
As already mentioned, there is not a lot that separates the two cars in the premium hatchback segment. However, there are a few differences in the features department that are worth noticing. A major difference is the software running underneath the similar infotainment systems of Baleno and Glanza. While the Baleno comes with an app by the name of Suzuki Connect that offers a lot of functionality and more comprehensive assistance to the customers when compared to the Glanza's Toyota Connect, which still feels half-baked as of now. The other major difference between the two is the absence of automatic folding mirrors on the Baleno. Glanza comes with automatic folding mirrors that open up when the car is started and fold down when it is turned off.
Other Differences
Talking of the minor differences here, the only noticeable but miniscule difference between Glanza and Baleno is the different badging on the two cars and the different style of the front grille. Also the Baleno can be bought in more colour variants as compared to the Glanza with the Maruti car being offered in 6 colours and Toyota only offering 5 shades on Baleno.
