BMW India had launched its entry-level sedan, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe as a diesel-only offering in October last year. Now the German brand has introduced the petrol variant of the sedan at Rs 40.90 lakhs (ex-showroom) in the country. The new variant 220i has been coupled with the ‘M Sport’ design package. It will be locally produced at BMW Group Plant in Chennai. Furthermore, the sedan is available across all dealerships in the country from today onwards.
Design-wise, the 220i petrol variant looks quite similar to its diesel counterpart. Upfront, it gets BMW signature kidney grille with vertical chrome slats. In addition, it features LED headlamps. The full-LED tail lights at the rear extend into the centre thereby forming an L shape. Other design bits include frameless doors, sloping roofline, chrome-tipped dual exhaust, M aerodynamic package, and 17-inch double-spoke M alloy wheels.
Inside the cabin, the 220i petrol variant comes loaded with a plethora of features. These include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, and connected navigation. Furthermore, it gets the newly designed sport seats with electric memory function. The safety kit comprises six airbags, ABS with brake assist, traction control, cornering brake control, dynamic stability control, attentiveness assistance, an electric parking brake with auto hold, ISOFIX child seat mounting and integrated emergency spare wheel under the load floor.
“BMW India continues to expand its product range as per evolving trends in the luxury car segment. We believe in offering the power of choice when it comes to fulfilling the mobility needs and desires of BMW enthusiasts. Designed with a focus on performance and sportiness, the new BMW 220i M Sport demonstrates powerful uniqueness that suits the requirements of motorsport fans. With the dynamics of a petrol engine, first-class driving characteristics, and the highest comfort, ‘Sheer Driving Pleasure’ is guaranteed every time,” commented Vikram Pawah, President, BMW Group India on occasion of the launch.
Performance-wise, the 220i is powered by BMW’s 2.0-litre TwinPower turbo petrol engine. The unit churns out 188 bhp power and 280 Nm torque while being linked to an 8-speed automatic gearbox with paddle-shifters on the steering wheel.
Talking about the colour options, the 2 Series Gran Coupé is offered in four paint shades namely Alpine White (non-metallic) and metallic – Black Sapphire, Melbourne Red and Storm Bay. While the M Sport variant is available in two additional exclusive colours - Misano Blue and Snapper Rocks. Inside the cabin, the sedan comes with a choice of upholstery combinations that include Sensatec Oyster Black and Sensatec Black.
