BMW iX SUV is the first fully electric vehicle to be launched by the brand in the Indian market

BMW is all set to mark its entry into the electric vehicle segment in the Indian market. The brand is all set to introduce its first fully electric SUV - iX SUV in India. The launch is slated to take place on December 13. The all-electric SUV will land on our shores via the CBU route. Talking about the price, we can expect it to cost Rs 1 crore (ex-showroom).

In terms of design, the BMW iX gets a futuristic look. Upfront, it features a vertical kidney grille setup similar to the one present on the 4 Series coupe. In addition, it gets integrated sensors, camera, and radar for the driver assistance system. Besides this, the all-electric SUV gets a quartet of light bands in the upper part of the slim headlamp assemblies instead of BMW’s traditional corona light graphic. The cabin of the iX resembles the BMW X5 in terms of size. However, the interior is more spacious than the X7. The feature list includes a hexagonal steering wheel, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, a 14.9-inch instrument cluster made out of a singular curved glass, among many others. The SUV is further equipped with BMW operating system 8 with iDrive, advanced driver assistance system, 5G connectivity, Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system with 4D audio function and many more.

In the global market, the all-electric BMW iX is offered in a total of two variants namely iX xDrive 40 and iX xDrive 50. Performance-wise, the iX comes with two electric motors, one placed on each axle and sending power to all four wheels. Talking about the xDrive 40, it churns out a top power of 325 bhp and a peak torque of 630 Nm. It further has a driving range of upto 414 km (WLTP cycle) and can sprint from 0-100 kmph in 6.1 secs. The xDrive 50, on the other hand, produces 522 bhp power and 765 Nm peak torque. This variant has a driving range of up to 611 km (WLTP cycle). It can further accelerate to 100 kmph in a mere 4.6 seconds.

The BMW iX xDrive 40 comes equipped with a 71 kWh battery pack. While the BMW iX xDrive 50 has been fitted with a 105.2 kWh battery. With a DC fast charger, the xDrive 40 can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 31 minutes and the xDrive 50 can be charged in 35 minutes. The all-electric SUV also comes with an 11 kW AC wallbox fast charger. Having said this, the xDrive 50 can be fully charged in less than 11 hours and the xDrive 40 in about 7.5 hours. But we are still not sure if BMW will provide the AC wallbox charger as standard with the iX.
