Automakers resume operations as the Government eases a few restrictions; permitted to sell the leftover BS4 stock.

With the advent of BS6 Emission Norms in April 2020, the Supreme Court Of India has provided relief to a few of the manufacturers by granting an extension to sell their remaining BS4 models under certain terms and conditions. Accordingly, all showrooms are permitted to sell only 10 percent of their BS4 stock within 10 days following the lifting of the lockdown. As per media reports, BS4 vehicles worth Rs 6,400 crores are still left unsold.

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India dealers are taking advantage of this by providing huge discounts on their remaining BS4 two-wheelers. One of the brand’s dealerships, L K Honda located in Sanjay Colony, Krishanpura, Panipat is offering a discount of Rs 20,000 on its BS4 inventory that includes Activa 5G, Dio, Navi, Cliq, CD110, and Shine SP. With limited stocks, these models will be available on a first-come-first-served basis.

Apart from this, the mentioned dealership is also offering different finance facilities for interested buyers. The booking and payment for these models will be done via an online mode. As for the delivery of the vehicle, the authorized outlet is following strict measures of safety and hygiene as recommended by the local government. Also, the products that are on sale are brand new and have not been registered with the RTO yet. The brand is also making sure that the two-wheelers on sale have a zero reading on their odometers.

Due to the COVID’19 lockdown, many dealerships across the country had been shut down. Thus, a lot of BS4 stocks remained unsold before the implementation of the deadline. But now with the government lifting the lockdown slowly, most of the automakers have resumed their operations under strict guidelines. Honda too has adopted a lot of safety precautions before taking this step. The company is planning to reopen its Karnataka plant that has a capacity of 2.4 million units along with other three plants in Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Haryana. All of these plants will operate in a phased manner following the safety and hygiene regulations.
