The final deadline for the implementation of BS6 norms as of now is April 2020 and Bajaj is racing against this timeline to launch their BS6 compliant motorcycles. Bajaj Auto will soon be launching BS6 compliant Avenger in the Indian market with dealerships across the country already accepting booking for the same. The existing Bajaj Avenger range has 3 variants - Street 180, Street 220 and Cruise 220 that are excepted to come equipped with BS6 compliant engines. Expected pricing would be higher than the current BS4 engine equipped outgoing model with the users required to pay Rs 10,000 plus premium on the newer models. All prices are ex-showroom (Delhi) and the extra premium you pay is simply for the addition of a fuel Injection system. The rival to the Avenger range in the budget cruiser segment could be the recently showcased BS6 Suzuki Intruder 150 at the Auto Expo 2020.
Due to the addition of a fuel injection system and other emission restricting components, the kerb weight of this motorcycle has gone up. With a new engine, Bajaj could be offering the new BS6 compliant models in new color schemes to the Indian consumers. The new 2020 Bajaj Avenger range will come equipped with an ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) as standard, due to the Indian Government mandate.
The older BS4 compliant model of this motorcycle was powered by a 160.4cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine generating 15 bhp of maximum power and 13.5Nm of peak torque. Although the power figures of the new BS6 model haven't been disclosed, the expectation is that the power output would vary depending upon the variants.
