In an era where mid-size sedans seem to have lost their shine due to the growing popularity of SUVs available across different price brackets and slumping sales owing to BS6 implementation, manufacturers are still pushing the envelope to keep the category alive. Hyundai recently launched the all-new 2020 Verna facelift in India. Apart from a host of fresh features, the 2020 Hyundai Verna has been updated with BS6-compliant engines. Maruti Ciaz, on the other hand, also boasts of a BS6 powertrain.
While 2020 Hyundai Verna Facelift has been priced in the range of Rs 9.31 lakhs - Rs 15.10 lakhs (ex-showroom). Maruti Ciaz Price, on the other hand, is priced between Rs 8.31 lakhs - Rs 11.09 lakhs (ex-showroom).
In terms of size and proportion, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is longer and wider with a bigger wheelbase than the Hyundai Verna Facelift.
The 2020 Hyundai Verna Facelift comes with a fresh look thus making it more appealing to the prospective customer. The front fascia features LED headlamps, new signature cascading grille with darkened chrome surroundings, and revamped fog lamps. It also has a tweaked bumper with redesigned air intake which has been positioned a tad lower. Riding on newly-designed 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, the rear end boasts of revised LED tail-light clusters. The inclusion of a new bumper with faux diffuser and full-width chrome strip sum up the exterior updates. The Turbo trim takes the sporty quotient even higher with the inclusion of grey-coloured 16-inch alloy wheels, twin-tip exhaust outlet, and a gloss black finish front grille.
Maruti Ciaz, on the other hand, comes with LED projector headlamps with DRLs and LED fog lights having a chrome finish. The sleek front bumper and a sleeker new grille give it an alluring look. On the sides, it gets 16-inch precision-cut alloy wheels in dual-tone Metallic Pebble Grey finish. Its rear end gets striking LED taillights.
The interior of Hyundai Verna Facelift features a dashboard with faux wood trim along with new AC vents inspired by the All-New Hyundai Creta. It boasts of a black and beige dual-tone colour theme. The Turbo trim gets finished in an exclusive all-black upholstery with red accents and paddle shifters as part of the standard fitment. The interiors of Maruti Ciaz, on the other hand, are sophisticated to the core. The cabin boasts of birch blonde wood finish and satin chrome accents. It offers a spacious cabin with 510 litres of boot space for added utility.
The main highlight of the Hyundai Verna Facelift is a slimmer control panel with an 8-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system that is integrated with Blue Link Connectivity Suite that offers 45+ features. It also provides a new digital instrument cluster which consists of a 4.2-inch multi-information display, tachometer, and speedometer. Other highlighted equipment on-board include front ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, wireless charger, hands-free boot opening, and Arkamys sound system.
While the elegance of the Ciaz is enhanced by the advanced SmartPlay infotainment system. Other highlighted features include cruise control, tilt steering, keyless entry, push start/stop button, electrically adjustable ORVMs, a rear sunshade with reading lamp, and rear air conditioning vents. Safety is synonymous with the New Hyundai Verna Facelift. It comes packed with a host of safety features. These include 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, speed-sensing door locks, high-speed warning, and seat belt reminders.
Safety is an integral part of the Ciaz experience. Maruti Ciaz comes equipped with the Nexa safety shield that is a collection of advanced safety features adhering to high safety standards. These features include the Suzuki-TECT body, dual front airbags, ABS, EBD, reverse parking camera, and electronic stability program with a hill-hold control system ( for automatic variants only).
2020 Hyundai Verna Facelift mileage falls in the range of 17.7 kmpl to 25 kmpl (ARAI Certified). In the case of the petrol variant, the manual offers a mileage of 17.7 kmpl and the automatic delivers a figure of 19.2 kmpl. The petrol CVT variant provides a mileage of 18.45 kmpl. In the case of the diesel variant, the manual offers a mileage of 25 kmpl and the automatic gives 21.3 kmpl. All figures mentioned here are ARAI Certified.
While the mileage of Maruti Ciaz falls in the range of 20.04 kmpl - 20.65 kmpl (ARAI Certified). The manual petrol variant offers a mileage of 20.65 kmpl with the automatic delivering a figure of 20.04 kmpl (ARAI Certified).
BS6 Hyundai Verna Facelift vs Maruti Ciaz: Engine Specifications
Among the two mid-sized sedans, the Hyundai Verna Facelift comes equipped with both BS6 petrol and diesel engines. While Maruti Ciaz comes with a single BS6 petrol engine.
Hyundai Verna Facelift comes with three BS6 compliant engines. First is a 1.5-liter petrol engine that produces 115 bhp power and 144 Nm torque. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and a CVT gearbox. While the diesel variant is powered by a 1.5-litre engine compatible with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. There is also a high-performance 1.0-litre T-GDI petrol unit on offer which comes equipped with a 7-speed DCT gearbox. The engine churns out a maximum power output of 120 bhp power with 172 Nm of peak torque
Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, on the other hand, is only being offered with a 1.5-litre i-VTEC BS6 compliant mild-hybrid petrol engine producing 103 bhp of maximum power and 138 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission along with 4-speed automatic gearbox as an option.
