Tata Motors now offering Tigor sedan at massive discount of Rs 1 lakh.

When Tata brought the Tigor compact sedan in India, it was touted to be cheapest sedan in the Indian market. The sub-compact sedan has now another trick up its sleeve to attract the customers as Tata Motors has upped the ante and is now offering a major discount of Rs. 1 lakh on the sub-4 meter compact sedan. This effectively brings down the price of Tata’s only sedan in the market to Rs. 5.42 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. This price makes is not only a major attraction for the customers, rather it also makes this car cheaper than the cheapest entry level version of Maruti Baleno premium hatchback.

Tata Motors offers its Tigor sub-4-meter compact sedan in India with 3 engine options in the market. There are two petrol engines on offer, the first one being a 1.2L-3 cylinder unit rated to produce and output of 84 Bhp-115 Nm, and the second one being a 1.2L turbocharged  petrol engine (available on the performance-oriented JTP model) rated to produce an output of 112 Bhp-150 Nm. The petrol engines both get a 5-speed manual transmission as standard, however the less powerful version also gets the option of a 5 speed AMT. Not to mention that the performance oriented JTP model’s gearbox offers different ratios so that the ride remains sporty. The same treatment has also been given to JTP versions’ suspension as the sporty version gets more stiff suspension for better handling and feedback from the car at higher speeds.

As far as the third and the diesel engine option is considered, the diesel mill on the sub-4-meter compact sedan from Tata Motors comes with a 1.1L -3 cylinder turbocharged unit rated to produce 69 Bhp-140 Nm. Tata offers a 5 speed manual transmission as standard with the diesel engine of Tigor.

Tata Motors has given the Tigor a non-conventional notchback design, which causes division of opinion over the design of the car among the customers in the market. Perhaps this is a reason why the customers have also been staying away from the car. With the kind of features, interiors, and looks the car offers at such an affordable price point, it has not found that much of a success in the market.

Tata has also recently facelifted the Tigor in order to keep the car fresh in the market. The new facelift brought aesthetic changes to the car aiming to give it a more premium look. However, the new discounts on the sub-4-meter compact sedan sure make Tigor a great value for money offering in the segment, as to how this impacts the sales of the car, remains to be seen.
