The Concept SUV is powered by a 475hp powertrain and can travel 520km on a full charge.

Chinese electric car start-up Byton, which is spearheaded by EX-BMW i boss Carsten Breitfeld, showed a concept SUV with support for level four autonomous driving at the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show.

The premium full-electric SUV is “almost production ready” and could come with a price tag of £33,200 (US $45,000). It will be sold with two powertrain configurations - a single 271hp electric motor version with two-wheel-drive or a four-wheel-drive version. The 4WD version can put out 475hp and 710Nm.

The Concept will have a range of almost 400km, and this can be extended to 520km with an upgraded battery pack, according to the company. The Concept can handle driver assistance systems for level four autonomous driving, including cameras, ultrasonic sensors, radar and laser scanners.

The Concept features facial recognition cameras which analyse your biometric data to unlock the door to authorised users. The interior features a 49.2-inch ‘Shared Experience Display’ which stretches the length of the dash and features gesture and voice control, or can be operated using a smartphone app. The rear-seat also has the same display with similar control methods.

The SUV is due to go into production in 2019, with a sedan and MPV, based on the same platform, slated for launch right after.
