The Citroen Basalt is the country's first internal combustion engine-powered (ICE) coupe SUV.

Citroen India has finally rolled out the Basalt ICE Coupe SUV in the Indian market after teasing this mass-market model for months. The SUV is available at an introductory price of INR 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Bookings for the Basalt ICE Coupe SUV are currently open for a token amount of INR 11,001. The auto giant revealed the Citroen Basalt earlier this month. In the SUV segment, the all-new Basalt will give tough competition to the Tata Curvv ICE, which is scheduled to be launched on September 2, 2024. It will also rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Honda Elevate, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, and Mahindra XUV 3XO.

The Citroen Basalt is the country's first internal combustion engine-powered (ICE) coupe SUV. The French automaker is offering the Basalt with a range of color options, including two dual-tone and five mono-tone themes. In the dual-tone color options, the ICE model gets Garnet Red and Polar White. On the contrary, the mono-tone theme includes shades like Polar White, Platinum Grey, Steel Grey, Garnet Red, and Cosmo Blue.

The most notable aspect of the new ICE SUV is its outstanding design language. Although it is based on the C3 and C3 Aircross, the SUV has a coupe body style, which is complemented by the boxy SUV shape. The SUV has design features similar to those of the C3 Aircross. These include split LED DRLs, flip-door handles, and chrome strips with the Citroen logo. It also features unique design elements such as a sloping roofline, squared wheel arches, a raked rear windscreen, redesigned LED taillamps with a 3D effect, and 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.

The Basalt Coupe SUV comes with a range of amenities, such as a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, a seven-inch all-digital driver display, wireless support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, a wireless charging pad, auto-folding ORVMs, and more. In addition, the Basalt ICE Coupe SUV also comes equipped with six airbags, ESP, a hill-hold assist, and a tyre pressure monitor.

The 2024 Citroen Basalt draws power from a Gen 3 PureTech 1.2-litre petrol engine, which is available in two guises: turbo and NA. The SUV gets a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol unit that can produce power of 110 bhp and 190 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a six-speed manual and automatic torque converter unit. The second unit is a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that churns out a power of 81 bhp and a peak torque of 115 Nm. The unit receives only a five-speed manual gearbox.
