Jeep’s recently launched Compass recently received a 5-star rating under Europe’s New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP). The Euro-spec car scored a high 90 percent on adult occupant protection and 83 percent on child safety. It also scored 64 percent in the Pedestrian safety category, and for Safety Assist it managed 59 percent.

For the test, the car used was a left-hand-drive model fitted with a 2.0-litre diesel engine, a 4x4 driveline, eight airbags and an autonomous braking system. Post the test, the observations by the agency said that the SUV’s passenger compartment remained stable in the frontal offset test and dummy readings showed that there was good protection of the knees and thighs of both the driver and passenger. Impact protection for both the driver and front passenger was good (for all critical body areas). While protection of the driver was good in the full-width rigid-barrier test, chest protection for the passengers at the back was rated as marginal. Tests on the seats and head restraints showed that the car offered good protection against whiplash injury when the car is rear-ended.

Bear in mind, these safety ratings are not reflective of the Indian Compass. The car sold here is a right-hand-drive model and is fitted with a different safety equipment list. The India-spec car is fitted with six airbags and doesn’t feature autonomous braking.
