The luxury SUV will feature a petrol-electric option along with mild facelift next year.

The updated Land Rover Discovery Sport will feature a mild facelift a new hybrid powertrain for 2018.

Under the hood, the turbocharged four-cylinder 2.0-litre Ingenium engine should remain largely unchanged. However, the Discovery Sport drivetrain range will get a new hybrid option – the company wants all its cars to be electrified by 2020.

The Discovery Sport will be powered by a petrol-hybrid powertrain which has been designed using the 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine, shared with the upcoming Range Rover Evoque plug-in hybrid.

It will enable around 48km of pure electric driving, and will help the car return more to the litre. The cabin will be improved, with an all-new infotainment system. The centre console screen with dials beneath will most probably be retained, and the car won’t get the advanced multi-screen set-up of the new and considerably pricier Velar.

Land Rover will most probably launch this version next year.
