Elon Musk along with The Boring Company has revealed a 1.83 km long Loop test tunnel under Los Angeles that previews the Loop transportation system for cars in the future. The Model X was the trial car for the Loop tunnel that traveled along the tracks in the tunnel with the help of horizontal wheels that attach to the Model X’s front wheels keeping the car in the track.
The Boring Company claims that the construction of the tunnel took 18 months and 10 million dollars to complete. The Loop transportation system will only support electric vehicles with autonomous driving capabilities. These vehicles are intended to be able to travel at up to 241 km/hr of speed through the tunnels.
Earlier, The Boring Company said that the Loop transportation system will have 16-passenger pods which would ferry pedestrians and cyclists through the tunnels. However, this is not the case now and only autonomous electric cars will be allowed in the Loop. This will be an effective and efficient system of transportation in the near future.
