A replacement for the Punto, the Argo gets three engine options.

Italian carmaker Fiat is soon to replace its Punto hatchback with a brand new hatchback called the Argo.

The hatchback’s aggressive design, the large grille, prominent body lines, dual-tone alloy wheels, and body cladding give it quite a sporty stance. Furthering this theme are the slim tail-lamps, the contoured tail-gate, along with the boomerang-shaped reflectors and faux-diffuser on the rear bumper.

The interior of the hatchback features a dashboard that’s split into upper and lower parts by a horizontal strip. A touchscreen infotainment system sits atop the centre console with two circular air-con vents below it. Even the climate control console features a mix of circular dials and switches. Automatic gearbox equipped variants can be specified with a traditional tip-tronic gear-lever, or a push-button gear-shift system – similar to the 595 Competizione – in India.

Engine options include 1.0-litre, 1.3-litre and a 139hp, 1.8-litre flex-fuel (petrol/ethanol) motors; these can be paired with either a five-speed manual, a six-speed automatic or a five-speed AMT gearbox.

The hatchback is set to go on sale in Brazil soon, post which, Fiat is expected to launch it in other countries. It remains to be seen if it will be launched in India as a replacement to the ageing Punto.
