The updated Gurkha will meet upcoming safety and emission norms.

In India, upcoming crash test norms will be enforced in October 2019 and the old-school Force SUV would need a massive overhaul to meet them.

Prasan Firodia, Managing Director, Force Motors said, “We are working on all the necessary modifications required in the body structure of the Gurkha, in order to make it future-ready.” This means the car will feature airbags, ABS and rear parking sensors, which are a must under the Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program (BNVSAP).

Firodia said, “We have invested Rs 250 crore on development of BS-VI-compliant diesel engines which are on the test-bed, now.” The investment will go towards BS-VI engines to run under the hood of the Gurkha and other vehicles.

The Gurkha is currently sold through 25 Force Motors’ dealerships in India.
