The Shanghai motor show is an auto event most look forward to every year as it offers an Asia-specific perspective of the automotive market, which can prove to be quite insightful. Just like every year, major car companies will be showcasing their upcoming products and one of them will be the China-specific version of the Ford EcoSport. The car was originally meant to be showcased at the LA motor show last year.
The car meant for the Chinese markets will vary slightly compared to the model that was revealed at the LA motor show last year. Changes include a reworked interior that now sports a new dashboard, large central Ford SYNC 3 touchscreen and the centre console design as well as new alloy wheels. The tailgate-mounted spoiler with a moulded cover has been continued, though that particular feature no longer appears in the models sold in the European market.
Though Ford will not be offering a dual-clutch automatic gearbox for the petrol model in China, it compensates by providing a six-speed Select-Shift unit in place of PowerShift DCT unit. As far as power is concerned, the China-specific EcoSport will come with a the choice of a 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol or a larger 1.5-litre petrol engine, along with a 2.0-litre Duratec petrol motor that comes paired with an all-wheel-drive system.
The EcoSport's Indian entry is expected later this year with similar power and exterior styling.
The car features a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that makes 230hp and 350Nm. This ‘hot’ version of the latest Octavia is priced at ₹24.62 lakh (ex-showroom).
