The car will be sold first in North American and European markets.

The company has begun work on the all-new Mach 1 crossover, which will be shown in 2020. Code-named CX430, the car will be built using the C2 platform that also underpins the new Focus.

The car is expected to be conventional and look hatchback-like, with a slightly raised driving position. Also, crossovers with Mustang design cues and a front-wheel drive chassis could be a reality since they showcase “the best attributes of cars and utilities, such as high ride height, space and versatility”.

The Mustang and Focus Active will continue to be on sale post 2020 in North America. Ford is also looking at reducing its global platforms to just five, currently, it has 11. When Alan Mulally took over as CEO in 2006, it was 17. For the future, there will be an emerging-markets small car platform (Ka), the C2 (Focus), a mid-sized SUV platform (Explorer), an electric car platform (Mach 1) and full-sized truck platform (F-Series).
