The iconic muscle car crosses major milestone after being on sale for 54 years.

The first series production Mustang went on sale in 1964 and it helped pioneer the muscle car genre around the world. Now, Ford has now produced its 10 millionth Mustang.

The 10 millionth Mustang was a GT Convertible powered by a 460hp, 5.0-litre V8, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, and finished in Wimbledon White. Ford celebrated this milestone at its Flat Rock plant by organising a parade involving Mustangs from across generations, driving from Dearborn to Flat Rock, and fly-overs from three World War II-era P-51 Mustang fighter planes.

Jim Farley, president of global markets, Ford Motor Company, said, “Mustang is the heart and soul of this company and a favourite around the world. I get the same thrill seeing a Mustang roll down a street in Detroit, London or Beijing that I felt when I bought my first car – a 1966 Mustang coupe that I drove across the country as a teenager. Mustang is a smile-maker in any language.”
