The Chinese carmaker showed a futuristic-looking SUV concept built on the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) that it co-developed with Volvo (which it owns).
This platform also underpins the XC40, and works with combustion engines, as well as hybrid and electric powertrains. For now, this concept hasn’t been finalised for production, but if it is feasible it could be sold outside of China as well. Geely said the goal of the Concept Icon is to “expand Geely’s DNA by taking into account the need of a new generation of consumer”.
Designer Guy Burgoyne said it’s minimalist design is “in line with modern-day gadgets, where it’s simple on the outside but hides a more complicated and technology-focused interior”. On the inside, the central binnacle goes away so that occupants can focus on the infotainment area. You even get central and rear screens and plenty of space to enable storage of devices. Burgoyne added, “The Energy Hub floating allows users to wirelessly charge their devices on the go and exchange information via the in-car screens.”
