An exciting development for road users in the country, the National Highway Authority Of India has waived off Rs 100 as part of the cost for FASTag. This waiver is specific to a 15-day period from the 15th to 29th of February, 2020. Prior to this announcement, NHAI (National Highway Authority Of India) had already extended the deadline twice - first being from 1st to the 15th of December 2019 after which the second extension was further provided till 15th of January 2020. The authority is keen on increasing the rate of FASTag adoption among the Indian consumers and the recent attempt by NHAI to offer free FASTag is a step in that direction.
So, how do you get a free FASTag? You can easily walk into any authorized physical retail outlet and show the necessary documents like a valid registration certificate (RC) of the vehicle, valid identification and address proof such as Aadhar or a drivers license and provide a passport-sized photograph. However, you should note that the minimum balance for the FASTag (and the security deposits for it) will still be the same and applicable.
NHAI FASTag is available for purchase at various outlets including RTOs, transport hubs, petrol pumps, and all national highway toll plazas. To find out the nearest NHAI FASTag POS locations, the user may download MyFASTag App or visit www.ihmcl.com or call 1033 NH helpline number.
