Honda Activa continues to enjoy widespread popularity in the Indian market. It has been the most popular choice of scooters for the Indian consumers for the last two decades since its launch in 2001. Now, Honda Activa has become the first scooter brand in the domestic market to cross the 2.50 crores sale figure. This is a stunning achievement in itself and illustrates the rising graph of Honda in the country. The announcement was done on Thursday and shows no scooter brand is anywhere close to the Activa in India. India’s love story with the scooter has gained strength with every generation. In 2001, Honda launched the 100cc Activa in India and achieved 10 lakh sales in just five years. By 2014, Activa brand overtook motorcycles to become No. 1 selling two-wheeler in the country.
Mr Atsushi Ogata, Managing Director, President & CEO, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. said, “Since its launch in 2001, be it the 100-110cc engine or the new more powerful 125cc engine, the secret of success of Activa family is Leadership that builds Trust. Since 20 years, Activa is at the forefront of technological innovation, sometimes even a decade before it became the industry norm. Be it the Honda patented tuff-up tube and CLiC mechanism in 2001, Honda’s Combi-brake system with Equalizer in 2009, revolutionary Honda Eco Technology (HET) for 10% mileage up in 2013, or even the smarter HET PGM-Fi engine powered by eSP and World First Tumble flow in BS-VI era; every generation of Activa brand continued to evolve, revolutionize the scooter segment and Activate India. We are happy to see that India’s love for the legendary Activa continues to reign supreme.”
Another fact to note here is that the Japanese two-wheeler giant added 1.5 crore customers in just a period of last 5 years. The reason for the continued increase in the popularity of Activa lies in the continued use of technological innovation over the period of time like 26 new patent applications & 13 percent more mileage in new Activa 125 BS-VI.
Honda Activa is powered by a 110cc PGM-FI HET (Honda Eco Technology) engine. The scooter belts out 7.68 bhp of maximum power at 8,000 rpm and 8.79 Nm of peak torque at 5,250 rpm. The engine is paired to a CVT gearbox. The entry-level Honda Activa 6G STD variant retails for Rs 66,223 (ex-showroom Gurgaon).
