Honda CBR650F has been discontinued in the Indian market
Honda has discontinued the CBR650F in India. The Honda CBR650F was brought to India as a CKD and was sold through its Wing World outlets as it was one of the large-capacity motorcycles in Honda’s India portfolio. Honda recently replaced the 650F in international markets with the CBR650R. The Honda CBR650R was revealed at EICMA 2018.
The CBR650F was the only middleweight motorcycle Honda offered in India. Sources claim that dealers have cleared all their stocks of the CBR650F and that the motorcycle will be replaced by the updated CBR650R in India as well.
The new CBR650R features updated styling, a slight increase in power and weighs lighter than its predecessor. It is powered by a 648cc, inline, four-cylinder engine mated to a 6-speed gearbox that produces 95 HP of peak power and 64 Nm of torque, compared to 90 HP and 63 Nm in the older motorcycle. The increase in performance is aided by an improved air-intake system. The updates on the CBR650R includes the addition of a slipper clutch and Honda Selectable Torque Control System (HSTC) which is available only with the ABS variant of the motorcycle.
Other mechanical changes have also been made to the motorcycle. The Honda CBR650R now gets a USD fork by Showa compared to the conventional telescopic fork on the 650F. The front brakes now use four-piston calipers with 310mm twin discs in comparison to a dual-piston calipers on the 650F. The updated CBR650R has also lost about 4kg by the use of a revised frame and redesigned wheels, resulting in a kerb weight of 207 kg.
Honda CBR650R is sportier than the model it replaces. It borrows inspiration from the company’s flagship motorcycle, the Fireblade. It comes in with more power, mechanical upgrades and better performance as compared to the CBR650F. In terms of design, the CBR650R gets dual split LED headlamps and a fully digital LCD instrument cluster, twin headlamps and a sportier riding position. It gets clip on handlebars lowered by 30 mm and rider footpegs which are positioned higher and more backwards, by 6mm and 3mm respectively.
The Honda CBR650F retailed at about Rs. 7.3 lakhs (ex-showroom, India). The CBR650R would be priced at a premium over the CBR650F if launched in India, given the extensive list of equipment on offer.
