Honda City Hybrid will launch in the Indian market in the upcoming financial year, as confirmed officially by Rajesh Goel, Senior Vice President, Honda Cars India. Now, it has been learnt that the City Hybrid will be the most fuel efficient car in the whole country due to its mileage of 27+ kmpl. The India-spec Honda City Hybrid is expected to return the same mileage figures as its Malaysian and Thai counterparts. For those asking, the Malaysia-spec and Thailand-spec version of the sedan deliver mileage of 27.70kmpl and 27.80kmpl, respectively.
Speaking of Honda City hybrid's powertrain setup, it gets a 1.5L petrol engine with a highly efficient ‘Atkinson Cycle’. The engine makes top power of 98 bhp while the electric motor develops 109 bhp. However, the overall power output that a customer will receive from the electric motor and petrol engine will not be the sum of these two. As for the torque performance, the electric motor and the petrol engine will develop 253 Nm and 127 Nm but the maximum value would be restricted to 253 Nm. It will be faster and more agile than the standard version of the sedan while doing 0-100kmph sprint in 0.5 seconds quicker time span. Just so you know, Honda City Hybrid is christened as Honda City RS in various global markets.
Honda City Hybrid is nearly 110 kgs heavier than the ICE version of the sedan. The boot capacity is 410 litres which is around 100 litres less than the regular version of the City. It boasts of rear disc brakes and electric parking brake as standard features. In addition, ADAS tech with a radar based safety system is also offered with the international model. The India-spec model will be locally developed at Tapukara facility in Rajasthan to keep the pricing aggressive. Though the majority of the components of the sedan will be imported. Honda City hybrid price in India is expected to start at Rs 17.50 Lakhs while going as high as Rs 19 Lakhs for the top model (Both the prices are Ex. Showroom).
