The upcoming adventure bike design will be influenced by CRF 250L rally
Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) is again making waves in the Indian market with the recent launches of H’ness CB 350 and Hornet. It doesn’t plan to stop here as it wants to make a splash in the adventure bike segment. In a recent development, the Japanese manufacturer had revealed to carandbike publication about their plans to use the all-new Hornet 2.0 platform to develop a new adventure segment focussed bike for the domestic market. Honda’s new adventure motorcycle would be either powered by a 160cc or 200cc engine. Currently, small-displacement adventure motorcycles are sold in the ASEAN as well as China markets by the manufacturer. When launched, it will compete against the Hero XPulse 200 which currently does not have any direct rival in India.
Considering the investment that the company has put into the Hornet 2.0 platform, it makes financial sense to use the platform to develop more bikes. The planned bike design will be influenced by CRF 250L rally motorcycles sold in the international markets. Honda CRF 250L is a hardcore off-roader so expect the Indian-spec model to provide a blend of street and off-road capability. Further, it will offered with features like digital-instrument cluster, dual-channel ABS, LED lighting among others.
Apart from the platform, the new adventure motorcycle would share the same engine as well as mechanical components with the Hornet 2.0 on sale in the country. Currently, the New Honda Hornet 2.0 is powered by a 184cc fuel-injected engine. The bike delivers 17 bhp @8,500 rpm and 16.1 Nm of peak torque @6,000 rpm. Tranmission duties are taken care of by a 5-speed gearbox. The adventure bike’s engine unit is expected to be tweaked to increase the power and torque.
Honda recently made a storming entry in the retro-classic cruiser motorcycle segment with H’ness CB 350. It comes in DLX and DLX Pro variants priced at Rs 1.85 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and Rs 1.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India) respectively. The premium DLX Pro comes in a dual-tone paint option with bluetooth connectivity.
