The current-gen Civic diesel gets an automatic gearbox for the first time.

The company is now offering a new nine-speed gearbox on its Civic diesel sedan, a first for the sedan. The car will make it to India as well and it is powered by a 1.6-litre diesel unit that churns out 120hp and 300Nm. This engine will also power the upcoming next-gen CR-V SUV which is slated to launch in the country in the near future.

The nine-speed gearbox facilitates better fuel economy and allows for faster shifts, according to Honda. The company confirmed this year that the Civic sedan will make it to India in 2019. We will be getting the facelifted version, which is yet to be revealed globally.

The India-bound Civic will be offered with a 1.6-litre diesel and a 140hp, 1.8-litre petrol engine as well.
