Honda ZR-V will take on the Tata Nexon, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and Hyundai Venue in India.

Honda Cars India is contemplating introduction of an all-new sub 4-meter SUV in the country. The Japanese automaker already has several SUV models in the Indian market such as CR-V, BR-V and WR-V. On the similar lines, it has been learnt that the company might name it as ZR-V. The insiders have told us that currently two models of Honda ZR-V are under development, one is for developed nations like Japan while the other one is for emerging markets like India. The sub-compact SUV segment is already crowded by the likes of Tata Nexon, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and Hyundai Venue.

Honda's ideal customer base with the new SUV, identical to all the manufacturers, are Gen Z or millennials. Hence, the company is keen to integrate the 'Z' prefix to its popular 'R-V' nomenclature, so that it gets the perfect name for the all-new SUV. In fact, Honda has already filed a trademark application for the 'Z-RV' moniker which makes it almost certain that the upcoming sub 4-meter would be christened by this name. Various reports have suggested that it would be based on the Amaze's budget-friendly architecture while sold in the emerging markets including India. There are two other sub-compact SUVs also in making in the form of Kia Sonet and Nissan Magnite which will also launch in the coming months in India.

However, there is another interesting theory doing the rounds on the web that Honda might introduce the new sub 4-meter as the new-generation Honda WR-V in the Indian market. Needless to say, the WR-V has been one of the most successful products in Honda's kitty. The company could launch the all-new sub 4-meter SUV as new-gen WR-V while reserving the Z-RV nameplate for developed markets such as Japan. The ZR-V is particularly developed to rival the Toyota Raize (Daihatsu Rocky) while it is based on the same platform as the Mk4 Honda Jazz. Honda ZR-V price is expected to be in the range of Rs 6-10 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom) while it will be available in both petrol and diesel fuel trims.
