With the initiation of BS6 norms, Hyundai Motor India has discontinued the BS4 diesel variant of its popular hatchback Elite i20. The carmaker will not be upgrading it to BS6 and hence have also removed it from their official website. Hyundai launched the BS6 petrol variant of Elite i20 in January 2020. This petrol variant is powered by a 1.2-litre engine that produces 83 bhp power and 114 Nm torque mated to both manual and CVT options for now. Competing against the likes of Tata Altroz, Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Toyota Glanza, the BS6 Hyundai Elite i20 is priced between Rs 5.59 Lakhs - Rs 9.2 Lakhs (Ex-Showroom).
The BS4 diesel Hyundai Elite i20 was powered by a 1.4-litre CRDI engine that churned out 90 bhp of power output with 220 Nm of peak torque. The engine came mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. Now the diesel engine is all set to return in BS6 avatar in the upcoming third-gen Elite i20. The third-gen Hyundai Elite i20 is expected to be launched by mid-2020.
The Third-Generation Hyundai Elite i20 will be powered by a BS6 compliant, 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that will churn out 115 bhp power and 250 Nm torque. The engine will be mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Hyundai will also offer the third-gen i20 with two petrol engines namely 1.0-litre turbo petrol that produces 120 bhp power mated to a 7-speed DCT along with the existing 1.2-litre unit that produces 83 bhp power and 114 Nm torque.
