Hyundai has just launched the Venue sub-4 meter compact SUV in India and has marked its entry in the highly competitive segment. Now as far as the upcoming launches from the brand are concerned, the next most exciting launch from the brand will be the all-electric Kona SUV. The brand has stated that the Kona EV will be launched in the Indian market in July 2019. To let you know, the South Korean maker has already launched the electric SUV in the global market and the vehicle has also garnered positive reviews from global reviewers.
The South Korean maker is very positive about the future of its upcoming electric SUV in the Indian market and this was pretty evident in what the new CEO of Hyundai India, Seon Seob Kim recently stated. The latest SUV from the company in the Indian market will be a kind of flag bearer of the brand in the electric vehicle segment in India. The Kona will display as to what the brand is capable of performing regarding the electric cars market in India. The company has already stated that the upcoming Kona from the brand will come with a range of 400+ kilometers per charge and this is the reason the brand is so confident about the role of the Kona in Indian market.
The new CEO of Hyundai India Mr. Seon Seob Kim recently talked about the upcoming Kona in the Indian market to a leading outlet and stated,
The reason why we chose to introduce the Kona EV is because it is already proven in matured markets. It might bring in a change in customer mindset. Initially we will also set up some charging stations in our office and in some dealerships but as an original equipment manufacturer, we are not responsible for setting up charging infrastructure across the country. To solve the increasing pollution level in Indian cities electrification is the right direction but the industry needs a road map from the government regarding electric mobility.
The upcoming electric vehicle will comes with a powertrain rated for 100 kW and 335 Nm. The range of the upcoming vehicle on a full charge will be nearly 400+ kms and the naught to ton figure for the SUV will be 9.3 seconds. While the maximum speed of the Kona will be around 160 kph. The capacity of the battery pack of the Kona will be 39.2 kWh.
The expected price for the Kona electric SUV is estimated to be in the range of Rs 20 lakhs to Rs 25 lakhs. Even at this price point, there are rumors that the brand will only bring the entry level model of the Kona in the Indian market. The entry level model of Kona SUV comes with a battery rated for capacity of 39.2 kWh. The price tag will surely make the upcoming electric SUV an expensive car in the Indian market. However, in the coming times the brand plans on building electric cars in India after sourcing local parts and this is bound to bring the price of Hyundai's electric cars in the future.
