The Euro-spec SUV is fitted with nine airbags and lots of driver assistance systems.

Euro NCAP’s latest crash test were conducted recently and Hyundai’s Kona SUV managed a five-star rating, making it one of the safest models in its segment.

It got a score of 87 percent in adult occupant safety, 85 percent in child occupant safety, 62 percent in pedestrian safety and 60 percent in safety assistance systems. For India, the version of the Kona that is on the cards will be an all-electric model instead of the petrol and diesel cars.

The Kona models tested were fitted with driver assistance systems that Hyundai calls SmartSense – which includes lane keep-assist, autonomous emergency braking, a driver alert, blind-spot detection and rear cross-traffic alert. This version is also fitted with nine airbags. Hyundai’s Kona EV was showcased at the 2017 Frankfurt motor show and will feature a powerful version of the all-electric Ioniq’s 28kWh battery. The electric motor makes 120hp and has a claimed range of 280km.

The electric version is being evaluated for India and may be on display at the upcoming Auto Expo in February 2018.
