Hyundai's upcoming Styx SUV Spied in India

With the rise of disposable income in the country, the sales of SUVs have been on the rise and chief among them has been the compact SUV segment. As the market shifts from sedan to SUV and focuses on the compact SUV segment, manufacturers are rushing to fill in the void in their line-ups. As of now, the sub-4 meter compact SUV options available in the market are Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and Ford EcoSport. Adding to the list will be Hyundai's latest model Styx.

However, Styx has been spotted during testing multiple times in the past as well. However, what is different this time is that the SUV was spotted sporting a dual tone paint job and a shark fin antenna as well. The images suggest that Hyundai's latest offering was sporting a white body paint along with a contrasting roof. The images also reveal another interesting bit, quite a unique pair of alloys.

Hyundai had presented the Carlino concept in 2016 Indian Auto Expo, Styx is the production version of the same. Styx will find competition from Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport and Mahindra XUV300 in the Indian market. As far as the launch of Styx is concerned it could happen around the year end.

Talking about the exterior of the sub-compact Styx, it is expected to feature the conventional Hyundai grille. Creta will bear heavy influence on the remaining body style of the SUV. Like all Hyundai cars, Styx too will be full of features to the brim.

Apart from a huge 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Hyundai will focus on safety and equip the car with dual airbags, ABS, EBD and the lot. Hyundai has not talked about the engine details so far but the new SUV could be offered in diesel and petrol models. The rumor mill has it the the Styx's petrol engine could be 1.0-litre turbo unit rated at 118 Bhp whereas diesel could be a 1.5-litre mill producing almost 115 Bhp. Hyundai will offer manual as well as automatic gearboxes with the new Styx SUV. However, there is a faint chance that the maker could only offer and AMT with the petrol model to keep prices in check.

As of now the option of both manual and automatic are present only on the Tata Nexon. The other competitors Brezza and EcoSport only offer automatics on diesel and petrol respectively. Mahindra XUV300 does not offers automatic yet, but it may soon join the Nexon with its diesel and petrol automatic versions slated to be launched soon.
