From this, it is quite evident that SUVs are a hot favorite car segment. This can be said from the success of many new carmakers who introduced SUVs as one of their first car products in India. This is evident from seeing the success of many SUVs like Tata Sumo, Tata Safari, Toyota Fortuner. There are many reasons as to why we love SUV’s over sedans. The trademark high ground clearance of SUV cars gives a better water fording capabilities over flooded streets. The higher driving position of an SUV car helps the driver to get better view of the traffic and make quick lane changing decisions.

In short, the SUV segment is booming in India and the car manufacturers are trying to attract car buyers with their new car models. Among the latest car launches are Hyundai Venue and Tata Harrier. Hyundai Venue 2019 specifications have left car lovers in awe with the latest features and the price at which it is available. Hyundai venue is the latest sub- 4 meter SUV from Hyundai that has made a good impact in the car market. While on the other hand, Tata Harrier has already crossed the 10K sales milestone. But how does the Tata Harrier stack up against Hyundai Venue? Let us do a comparative study of Hyundai Venue vs Tata Harrier and see which of them seems an attractive buy.

Dimensions & Size:

Tata Harrier is 603 mm longer, 124 mm wider, 101 mm taller than the Hyundai Venue. Tata Harrier has a wheelbase of 2741mm which is 241mm longer than Hyundai Venue. In term of ground clearance, Tata Harrier wins by 15mm which has a 205mm of ground clearance. The high ground clearance of Tata Harrier means that it is better prepared for some intense off- roading adventures.

The biggest advantage of Tata Harrier is also its biggest disadvantage. While the size provides more room for luggage and comfort, the size is also a hindrance when finding a car spot in streets which is hard to find in a metro city like Delhi and Mumbai. While both cars have a 5-seater capacity, the Hyundai Venue is more compact which means negotiating congested traffic and making sharp U-turn are quite easy.

Features:

The Venue comes with latest features like remote engine start/stop, remote climate control, voice recognition, vehicle relationship management, and more. Some of the other features include an electric sunroof, cruise control, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, cornering lamps, a cooled glovebox, and a multi-functional steering wheel with tilt.

Tata Harrier's specification include a 7-inch touchscreen for the mid variant XT and an 8.8-inch touchscreen in the top-spec variant XZ. The system is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The top-spec variant is embedded with some of the most advanced safety features like 6 airbags, traction control, ISOFIX child seat anchors, rollover mitigation control and electronic stability control.

Engine and Transmission:

Tata Harrier has 2.0 L Multijet 16-valve, 4-cylinder 1956cc, the engine that is sourced from Fiat. The engine is turbo diesel that comes with common rail direct injection, and a variable-geometry turbocharger that pumps 138 bhp of power and 350 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The SUV gives a fuel mileage of 17km per liter.

Hyundai Venue specifications include five variants that are available with three engine options in total. The petrol engines are available with 1.2 L and 1-Litre that produces 120 bhp and 83bhp of power respectively. Also, the 1.2L petrol engine churns 115N of torque while 1.0L petrol engine pumps 172Nm of torque. The petrol variant comes with 5-speed, 6 speed and 7 -speed dual-clutch transmission. The 1.4L diesel engine churns out 90 bhp of power and 220Nm of torque. The diesel engine comes with 6-speed manual transmission. The petrol variant gives a fuel efficiency of 18km/l while the diesel variant gives a fuel efficiency of 23km/l.

Price:

The on-road price is the most crucial factors that affect the buying decision of a customer. The lowest variant of the Hyundai Venue is available at Rs 6.50 lacs which is the ex-showroom price of its base model E 1.2 Petrol while the top variant has an ex-showroom price of Rs 11.11 lacs which is the ex-showroom price of its highest model car Sx Plus (o) 1.0 Automatic and Petrol variant. Hyundai Venue on road price starts from Rs. 7.43 lacs for its base model E 1.2 and goes up to Rs. 12.6 Lacs which is the on the on-road price of its top variant SVX Plus petrol variant.

Tata Harrier on road price for the base model XE(Diesel) is Rs. 15.52 Lacs while for the on road price for the top model, XZ(Diesel) is Rs. 19.23 Lacs. 

Tata Harrier and Hyundai Venue belong to different segments that have successfully made their impact in their respective segment.

While Tata Harrier offers sheer power, but Hyundai Venue is loaded with tons of features that makes it fun to drive and it has has a low-price tag than Tata Harrier.
