The 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan facelift has been officially unveiled ahead of its launch in the Indian market. The SUV gets a plethora of styling updates as well as a new petrol powertrain while it makes a comeback in India after one year. It is expected to be priced in a range of Rs 25-29 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom) as it will rival the likes of Hyundai Tucson and Jeep Compass in the country. However, both of its aforementioned rivals are also powered by a diesel engine with a manual transmission but Tiguan misses out on these.
The 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan boasts of a boxy design which is a resemblance to the pre BS6 era model. Though, sharper LED Matrix headlamps and new front grille lend it a unique appearance. The front bumper houses triangle-shaped fog lamp units and slated air intakes which distinguish it from the 7-seater Tiguan Allspace. The rear profile appears similar to the Allspace, except for the smaller overhang. The SUV rides on newly designed 18-inch alloy wheels. The cabin has also been carried over from the Allspace, save for the touchscreen interface for the AC instead of the rotary knobs and buttons. Some of the salient features include panoramic sunroof, three-zone climate control, ambient lighting and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto.
If we speak about the safety features, the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan comes loaded with 6 airbags, Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Stability Program, Hill Start Assist, Tyre Pressure Monitor System, and a Driver Alert System. Under the bonnet, the SUV gets a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged TSI petrol engine which develops top power of 190bhp and peak torque of 320Nm with Tiguan Allspace and Skoda Superb. It is expected to be paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission while power would be transmitted to all the four wheels through Volkswagen's 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system. The 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan launch in India will take place in the next few months.
