The race will see seven teams compete in identical powerboats and will be held along the Marine Drive shoreline.

The shoreline of Marine Drive will play host to the inaugural Nexa P1 Powerboat Indian Grand Prix of the Seas from March 3 – 5, 2017.  The race is the brainchild of maritime motorsport brand P1 Global in partnership with Procam International.

The race will have seven teams compete in 250hp P1 Panther powerboats along a 5.2km defined racetrack. The powerboats have been designed to race in just six feet of water to provide spectators with a close-to-shore racing experience. They are also capable of a top speed of 120kph.

Each team will have two powerboats and each boat will have a pilot and a navigator. The winners will be decided based on the combined best times of both boats after two races, the first of which will be held on Saturday, March 4 and a grand final on Sunday, March 5.

This Indian Grand Prix of the Seas is the first series to be recognised by the international powerboating governing body Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM). There is a four tier structure to the championships. A World Cup at the top – held biennially from 2020 – with inter-continental, national, and regional series under it.
